Records Preservation and Access Committee

Thanks to DearMyrtle for bringing this to our attention in her blog.

The Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National Genealogical Society have joined forces and formed the Records Preservation & Access Committee. According to their website, the Committee will advise the genealogical community on ensuring proper access to historical records of genealogical value in whatever media they are recorded, on means to affect legislation, and on supporting strong records preservation policies and practices.

Find out more on the Records Preservation & Access Committee blog. I checked the list of State Liaisons found here and currently Alabama does not have a liaison.

How about volunteering to be the ALABAMA state liaison? If you do, I’ll volunteer to be one for either Washington or Utah.

    Myrt :)

  2. Myrt,

I would LOVE to be able to do this. Unfortunately I am involved in several other projects currently that need my time.

I will gladly assist anyone willing to volunteer and represent Alabama as liaison.

The state you choose to represent will consider themselves VERY lucky!!

Thank you for all that you do for the genealogy community.

The only thing necessary to be a liaison is to keep your eyes and ears open for ways any state or county is attempting to close or severely limit access to records. Also watching for any unwarranted destruction of records. Not a difficult thing to be….just be a good liaison.
