BGS Meeting — February 27, 2010 — Historic House Research in Jefferson County, Alabama

The Birmingham Genealogical Society meets the fourth Saturday of each month (ex. Nov. & Dec.) in the Arrington Auditorium at the Downtown Birmingham Public Library. Guests are always welcome!

Speakers:  Jason Kirby, Preservation Specialist, BPL-Southern History & Library Archivist for the Birmingham Botanical Gardens Library (and BGS 1st Vice-President), & Linda Nelson, Birmingham Historical Commission

Jason Kirby will talk about sources available at the Birmingham Public Library (Southern History and Archives departments) dealing with Historic House Research. He will also walk you through the steps that he went through in getting a Jefferson County historic plaque for his house in Hueytown.

Linda Nelson will cover the role of the Jefferson County Historical Commission in dealing with historic structures and buildings, and bring her expertise is doing historic house and neighborhood research. She will also cover the application process for getting a historic plaque.
