The crosswalk that connects the Birmingham Public Library East Building to the Linn-Henley Research Library is currently closed for renovation.  You must enter the Linn-Henley building through the entrance adjacent to Linn Park.

The Birmingham Public Library in partnership with the Jefferson County Historical Commission are sponsoring “a workshop on how to conduct research on historic dwellings in Birmingham and Jefferson County including resources at [the Birmingham Public Library] and requirements for historic designations.”

The workshop will be held on July 18, 2009 from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm.    This workshop is free and open to all.  No registration is required.

The Chilton Cemetery Association in conjunction with the Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance is holding a headstone repair and cleaning workshop at the Rocky Mount Cemetery in Chilton County on June 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. This workshop is free and open to all.

Directions:
From I-65, take the 219 Jemison/Thorsby exit and turn east onto County Rd 42 for half a mile. At the four-way intersection, turn left onto County Rd 51 for two miles at which time you’ll go back over the interstate. Continue on County Rd 51 for one mile to the Rocky Mount Cemetery on your right. Ample parking is available.

Exciting news! An index for Alabama Deaths reported between 1908 and 1974 is now on the new FamilySearch Labs website (FREE to access). As part of the index, they have extracted spouse and parents names (if available) as well as death date and place.
