Genealogybank.com is turning 1 year old this month and for the next two weeks they are offering the yearly subscription at 70% off the regular price for a total of $69.95. I have been waiting for them to do an offer like this for several months.
If you are not familiar with genealogybank.com, they offer access to images of newspapers, obituaries, books and documents. Everyone is free to search genealogybank.com and you will get a “snippet” view of the image at no charge. You can choose a month- to-month or a yearly subscription if you want the entire image.
To sign up for the discounted subscription, click on the link that says “Current Members: Click here for an annual membership, over 70% savings!” once you get to the main home page.
While we would all like to be able to afford the latest and greatest in all things. Reality sets in for most of us and we find ourselves stretching our “discretionary” cash for our shared addiction – genealogy/family history research.
That said, have I got a deal for you? Nothingbutsoftware.com has some great deals on software to record your family tree information. They are not the most recent releases, but in the case of Family Tree Maker that’s a good thing from what I have heard. As an added bonus the Family Tree Maker 16 packages offered each come with varying lengths of free subscriptions to Ancestry. com. The cheapest starts at $14.95 – though I am seriously considering the $29.95 package with the 1 year subscription – my current Ancestry subscription is almost up and why pay $150.00 when I could get more for $29.95.
You can check out the offers here. And see the store rating/buyer feedback for Nothingbutsoftware.com from Bizrate here.
During the month of August you can get $10 off the yearly subscription (regular $59.95) at Footnote.com if you join via the link from Olive Tree Genealogy. Click on the link here to join Footnote.com with the discounted price. If the link does not work, go to Olive Tree Genealogy and click on the link for the special discount. In addition to the discounted subscription offer, footnote.com also has a standing free 7-day trial.
If you have not heard of Footnote.com previously, it is a newly launched website that offers access to original documents images – a good number of which have not been previously available on-line. Footnote.com has agreements with the National Archives and with the Allen County Public Library to scan and index original documents. One of my favorites sets of images they have is the Alabama Civil War Soldiers Service Record index cards. As of today they are 96% complete. A nice thing about the site is that you get a very readable preview of the image (which is great if you don’t subscribe). There are many other databases and I encourage you to check them out here.
Ancestry.com has lowered the subscription rates for both the US Deluxe & World Deluxe subscription. US Deluxe is currently $99 (down from $155.40) & World Deluxe is currently $199 (down from $299.40). Who knows how long this will last? To take advantage of the offer on a NEW subscription go to:
